We’ll cross the Hatches Harbor Dike and marsh to reach historic Race Point Light, enjoying stunning panoramic views and the quality of light that put Provincetown on the map for artists and writers in the late 1800s.
Meet at 8:45 am to sign in and stretch. We’ll begin walking promptly at 9. Route is tide dependent; please be on time. Hosted by Sue Moynihan with Sweep TBD. Read to the bottom for directions to meeting point.
Prerequisites: Instructional clinic and ability to walk ~3.5 miles at a steady pace, including some sand.
Distance: ~3.5 miles. No turn-back or shorter option.
Pace: 22/23-min miles, moderate on hard pack, slower on the sand, with rest and view stops every 1/2 mile or so.
Terrain: 1.5 miles on sand, 2 miles on hard pack. Shoes will likely get wet as we cross the marsh.
For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round.
- Limit 1 walk per day.
- Wear your CCNW ID badge.
- Sand baskets helpful.
- Carry bug spray.
- Full sun, often windy. Suggest a hat, sunscreen, & sunglasses.
- If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.
This walk is authorized under a National Park Service Special Use Permit.
