Deep into the woods of Nickerson State Park is the Final Frontier….Area 7. Just as beautiful as the rest of the park!  Let’s go check it out! Our route has a variety of terrain that includes a wooded dirt trail with some sweet elevation that’ll get your heart pumping. Next, an asphalt road then a wide a hard packed dirt fire road. We will walk the fire road to area 7.  Located at the very end of Nook road, area 7 has stunning campsites, peek a boo sites of Little Cliff and Higgins ponds, some rolling and steep hills PLUS remnant structures of the past! Meet at 9:45AM to sign in and stretch. We’ll begin walking promptly at 10:AM. Hosted by Leslie Kalinowski with Sweep Mike Kalinowski. Read to the bottom for directions to meeting point.

Prerequisites: Instructional clinic, at least one advanced walk of 4+ miles. Ability to walk 4.25 miles at a moderate pace, over varied terrain
Distance: 4.25 miles. No turn-back or shorter option.
Pace: 22/25-min miles, with rest stops
Terrain: Wooded path with elevation, exposed roots and rocks, asphalt trail, wide hard packed dirt fire road.

For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round.

  • Limit 1 walk per day.
  • Wear your CCNW ID badge.
  •  Hunting, is not allowed in Nickerson State Park.
  • A porta potty is at the beginning of the trail only. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need.
  • If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.

Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. **Check your email (including spam) and this event listing, including comments, below, before driving to the walk. ** If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email, and the walk will no longer be visible in the event listing or on the calendar.

Directions: Meet at Freemans Fields. Freemans Fields are located off of Freemans way in Brewster. The best way to Access Freemans Way is from route 137. The athletic fields are approx. 1-1.5 miles down Freemans Way on the left hand side. There is a large green “Freemans Field “sign. You can use Route 39 IF you are coming from Orleans but if coming from Harwich, rte. 39 is closed for sewer construction at unpredictable times. Once you turn in (at the “Freemans Fields sign”) follow the dirt road all the way to the end and park.
