Tap for WINTER SAFETY

Winter weather poses walking risks. Ice-covered trails could cause falls. Windchill may lead to hypothermia. Storm waves could overtake trails and beaches. High winds could cause falling tree limbs. We cancel walks when Cape schools are closed, when authorities advise to stay off roads, and when windchill at walk time and location is 19 degrees or lower. We also cancel or adjust routes to avoid ice. As conditions vary widely across the Cape, on a given day, one walk may be canceled for weather, while another may proceed.

Always check email (including spam) and walk listings before driving to a walk to see if a walk has been canceled. If a Host cancels a walk, those with bookings will receive a web-generated email, and the walk will no longer be visible in the walk listing.

Absent these conditions, winter walks can be wonderful if we are dressed warmly (layers recommended) with hat, gloves, and waterproof shoes with good traction. Even in winter, always carry drinking water.
