Hello hardy early birds! Let’s enjoy a beautiful morning while we view the stunning features of the Brewster flats! We will walk from Spruce Hill to Namskaket Creek. Namskaket Creek separates Brewster from Orleans.
Meet at 6:00 AM for sign-in and stretching to begin walking promptly at 6:15 AM Hosted by Leslie Kalinowski with Sweep Mike Kalinowski.
—Prerequisite: Completed CCNW Instructional clinic. Completed at least one intermediate walk. Ability to walk a varied terrain, see description below.
—Distance: 3.5 miles No turn-back or shorter option.
—Pace: Moderate
—Terrain: Wooded path, cobblestone cart path, some exposed roots, rocks. Sand, some hard packed and approx 1/4 mile soft sand. Hard dirt path, exposed rocks. A moderate incline on the way back through the woods.
For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when making your RSVP decision. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Take precautions against the sun, such as sunscreen and a hat. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round. Please be mindful/take precautions: Poison Ivy has been seen on many trails.
—Limit 1 walk per day
—Wear your CCNW ID badge.
— Sunglasses, long pants. Rubber tips and footwear for varied terrain recommended.
—Restrooms are available at 1mile and 1.5 miles . Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need.
—If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.
Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. Directions: Spruce Hill Conservation Area is at 3171 Main Street (route 6A)Brewster. The driveway to Spruce Hill Conservation Area is NOT marked with an address. Coming from Dennis on Route 6A, Spruce Hill driveway is on the left, after CAPE COD SEA CAMPS. Driving from Orleans, Spruce Hill driveway will be on your right, after Cobies Restaurant.
Parking and the trailhead for the area is at the top of the driveway of this vacant white house. Please see the picture below. Please give yourself a little extra time if you haven’t traveled here before.
We will be done before we need a Brewster Beach pass which is required at 9AM
