Celebrate May’s start with the perfect Provincetown mashup: old growth woods, dunes, ponds, bogs, poetry, and—fingers crossed—maybe we’ll spot some whales and warblers!
Meet at 9:15 am for sign-in and stretching to begin walking promptly at 9:30. Hosted by Sue Moynihan with Sweep TBD.
Prerequisite: Instructional Clinic and prior CCNW walks of 3+ miles at a moderate pace over uneven terrain with elevation gain.
Distance: ~4.5 miles. No shorter or turn-back option.
Pace: Moderate on the hard pack, faster on the asphalt, with only occasional stops.
Terrain: 1 mile hard pack with some sand, steep steps without railings, roots, and boardwalk. ~3.5 miles paved bike path, with 1.5-mile incline.
For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round. ** Spring turkey season. Display blaze orange for visibility and safety.**
- Limit 1 walk per day.
- Wear your CCNW ID badge.
- Open, exposed route. Sun protection recommended.
- Restroom available at halfway point. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need.
- If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.
This walk is authorized under a National Park Service Special Use Permit.
Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Directions: Meet at the Beech Forest Trailhead, Provincetown. Route 6 to Provincetown. Turn onto Race Point Road and follow it into the national seashore, past the Province Lands sign. Turn left into the Beech Forest parking lot. *Allow extra travel time for Rt 6 construction in Wellfleet.*
