How about a nice and early 8+ mile walk to kick off Memorial Day Weekend while preemptively burning off those hot dogs and hamburgers! If you like views of big sand dunes, an ever changing shoreline, the possibly of finding sea treasures, while getting in a great workout, this walk is for you!
HOLIDAY TRAFFIC CONSIDERATION Hopefully the early start time will mean no traffic issues, and depending on which direction you’re coming from, going home will mean heading opposite the traffic. However, it is the “unofficial start of Summer,” so please take traffic into consideration when making your decision to sign up for this walk.
For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round.
- Prerequisite: Instructional clinic and at least two recent 5+ mile CCNW walks at a faster pace. Ability to walk a long distance on areas of both hard and soft sand, small uneven rocks.
- Distance: 8+ miles. No turn-back option.
- Pace: Moderate to fast, 20-23 minute mile.
- Terrain: At beginning/end multiple uneven wooden steps/stairs, flat sea grass, uneven rocks, soft sand dune crossing, long stretches of soft and hard sand.
This walk starts at the area in Wellfleet Harbor known as “The Gut,” to Cape Cod Bay, then all the way via the beach to Jeremy Point, heading back the same route.
Meet at 8:15 AM for sign-in and light stretching to begin walking promptly at 8:30 AM (this walk is tide dependent). Hosted by Debbie Zinck and Sweep TBD.
- Limit 1 walk per day.
- Wear your CCNW ID badge.
- Rubber tips are recommended. Sand baskets optional.
- Bring bug spray.
- Bring sun protection. Unless there is cloud cover, this walk is in full sun!
- There are two Porta-Potties at the parking lot. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in the event of a bio break need along the route.
- No water source available. Bring plenty of water!
Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Given the early start time of this walk, a cancellation decision will be made by 8:00 pm the day before. **Always check your email (including spam) AND this event listing before driving to the walk.** If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email, and the walk will no longer be visible as an event listing or on the calendar.
If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.

Directions:
1440 Chequessett Neck Rd, Wellfleet. The Great Island sign and parking lot sneaks up on your left. If you reach the end of the road, you’ve gone too far. Please allow extra time for road construction in Wellfleet, which generally starts at 7:00 AM.
