Calling all beginner and high beginner/low intermediate walkers! Are you ready to go farther and pick up the pace a bit? This one’s for you! Lieutenant Islands’s marsh grasses are greening up, plovers have returned to nest, fiddler crabs are scurrying about, and there’s always something intriguing along the wrack line. Sweeping views and interesting history round out this memorable experience. 

Meet at 2:45 to sign in and stretch.  We’ll begin walking promptly at 3. 🌊 Tide dependent; please be on time. Hosted by Sue Moynihan with Sweep TBD. Read to the bottom for meeting place details.

Prerequisite: Instructional clinic and ability to walk for 3.3 miles, including about 2 miles on packed sand
Distance: 3.3 miles; no shorter or turn-back option
Pace: Moderate and steady, 24/25-min miles, with several view and rest stops. Longer intervals between stops than beginner walks.
Terrain: ~2 miles of packed sand, and ~1 mile of pavement/hard-pack trail. No hills. Rubber tips needed. Wide and level route supports Nordic technique.

For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round.

• Wear your CCNW ID badge.
• Exposed location, often windy. Consider sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen.
• Bring a bag if you wish to beach comb.
• Carry bug spray.
• There will be mud along the marsh, and shoes will likely get wet along the tide line.
• No restrooms or water. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need.
• If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.

Directions: Rt. 6 to Lieutenant Island Road in Wellfleet. Follow Lieutenant Island until you see the wooden causeway (bridge). Look for the wide dirt parking area on the left before you reach the causeway. Parking is limited; I will be there early to help you park close together so we all fit and leave space for others.
