This is a faster paced walk through a lovely conservation area with several kettle ponds, and varied terrain to keep things interesting.
For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round.
Meet at 9:45 AM for sign-in and stretching to begin walking promptly at 10:00 AM.
Hosted by Debbie Zinck with TBD.
— Prerequisite: CCNW Instructional Clinic and the ability to walk at least 3 miles, at a faster pace, over uneven and varied terrain.
— Distance: +/- 3 miles. No turn-back or shorter option.
— Pace: Moderate to fast with fewer stops.
— Terrain: Short section of sand at start and end of walk, woodlands, pine-needle covered dirt paths, roots, hard packed sand/gravel mix, inclines/declines.
This a hidden gem with a few of the many kettle ponds on Cape Cod. Tree-lined paths, a blueberry patch, a golf course, and (if we’re very lucky) perhaps a river otter sighting, awaits. Please note this is a popular dog-walking area, so we might see some furry friends.
Limit 1 walk per day and 3 bookings per week (Sunday to Saturday) to give others the chance to walk. If you are already holding 3 bookings for the week of this walk, please do not sign up.
— Wear your CCNW ID badge.
— All softer surfaces, carbide tips are needed.
— Restrooms and water are NOT available. Bring tissue in a plastic bag for a bio break.
If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.
Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. Check your email (including spam) before driving to the walk. If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email, and the walk will no longer be visible in the event listing or on the calendar.
Directions: The Flax Pond Conservation Area is in DENNIS (do not go to the Flax Pond Recreation Area in Yarmouth) off Setucket Road, just over the Yarmouth/Dennis line, between Mayfair Road and Alexander Drive.
Approaching from the Yarmouth side, the parking lot will be on your left shortly after you pass Mayfair. Approaching from the Dennis side, after you pass Alexander, look for the yellow road side and the parking will be right after it on your right.
There is an actual parking lot with a sign designating Flax Pond. Both the parking lot and the sign can be hard to see until you are right upon them. Please park efficiently, as it is a small lot.
NOTE: Some GPS systems may bring you to a sandy cut-away under power lines. This is NOT the parking area.
I’m happy to sweep for you Debbie
