Come on down for this beautiful walk through the remote hills and ponds of Wellfleet! We will start at Gull Pond, the largest kettle pond in Wellfleet, then take dirt roads and paths past 5 pristine ponds and a hidden swimming area before descending to the Atlantic Beach above Newcomb Hollow.

Meet at 9:45 AM for sign-in and stretching to begin walking promptly at 10:00 AM. Hosted by Dorrie Scipione Ross with Sweep TBD.

—Prerequisite: Instructional Clinic and 2 walks of 4 miles or more on varied terrain

—Distance: 4 miles. No turn-back or shorter option

—Pace: Moderate and steady with a few stops for water and to enjoy the views

—Terrain: Hilly (400 ft elevation gain), a few long climbs, uneven dirt roads, hard pack wooded trail, some mud possible in the sluiceway and at pond lookouts, soft sand on beach

For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round. 

—Limit 1 walk per day and 3 bookings per week (Sunday to Saturday) to give others the chance to walk. If you are already holding 3 bookings for the week of this walk, please do not sign up.

—Wear your CCNW ID badge.

— Carbide tips suggested. Poison ivy is possible in the woods.

—Restrooms and water are not available. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need.

—If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.

This walk is authorized under a National Park Service Special Use Permit.

Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. Check your email (including spam) before driving to the walk. If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email and the walk will no longer be visible in the event listing or on the calendar.

Directions: Take Route 6 through Wellfleet. Make a right onto Gull Pond Road (you will see Moby Dick’s on the left side of 6). Follow Gull Pond Road to School House Hill Road; make a left onto School House Hill Road. Take School House Hill Road to Gull Pond Landing Beach – make a right into the parking lot.

If using GPS make sure to enter “Gull Pond Landing Beach” as your destination. Entering “Gull Pond” only will take you to the wrong place.
