This walk is a beautiful mixture of shaded woodlands with wide, pine-needle pathways, and a sunny cranberry bog with a .6 mile track circling it.  Mostly wide, flat terrain.  There are some benches along the way if you want to stop and admire the view down to the Herring River.

Meet at 3:45pm  for sign-in and stretching to begin walk promptly at 4:00 pm        Hosted by: Melinda Maryniuk.  Sweep: TBD                                                        Prerequisite: Instructional clinic and comfortable walking at least 1 mile of varied terrain.
Distance: 2.2 miles if twice around the bog (or 1.4 miles if once around).                  Pace: Slow-Moderate depending on the group.                                                     Terrain: A combination of well-worn paths (with roots, rocks, hills), and a hard pack sandy road that circles the bog.

 For your safety:  Consider the weather forecast when making your RSVP decision. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round.  Wear blaze orange for visibility and safety during hunting season.

Reminders:                                                                                                                   —Limit 1 walk per day and 3 bookings per week (Sunday to Saturday) to give others the chance to walk. If you are already holding 3 bookings for the week of this walk, please do not sign up.                                                                                                                 —Wear your CCNW ID badge.                                                                                        —Restrooms and water are not available. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need.                                                                                                                           —If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.  Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. Check this event for last-minute notifications

Location:   Meet at the Sand Pond Woodland Parking Area (near 100 Great Western Road, West Harwich):  From the intersection of Rt. 124 and Main Street in Harwich Center, drive approx. 2.3 miles west toward Dennis. Watch for the semi-circle parking area with split rail fence on your right.  There is a blue fire hydrant next to the parking lot.  (this is not the same thing as the Sand Pond public beach parking lot; the trail area is about ¼ mile further west).

Coming from Dennis take Great Western, go .3 miles past intersection of Depot street and when you see a mailbox on the left with 100 on it look for the parking area just after it.
