Advanced Walk – Nickerson State Park – Three Ponds (Big and Little Cliff and Flax) – 5.8 miles
For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when making your RSVP decision. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round. Wear blaze orange during hunting season (except for Sundays).
Meet at 9:45 a.m. for sign-in and stretching to begin walking promptly at 10:00 a.m. Hosted by Barbie Liftman with Sweep TBD.
—Prerequisite: Instructional Clinic, prior CCNW walk of 4+ miles and ability to walk at a moderate, sustained pace with few breaks.
—Distance: 5.8 miles. No turn-back or shorter option.
—Pace: Moderate pace with few breaks.
—Terrain: All wooded trails, lots of roots and rocks. Modest elevation gains. Carbide tips only. Sturdy hiking shoes or boots recommended. This 5.8 mile walk around three ponds is entirely wooded and affords spectacular pond views and photo ops.
—Limit 1 walk per day.
—Wear your CCNW ID badge.
—Restrooms and water not available. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need.
—If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.
Mass DCR parking pass or paid parking not required after October 13.
Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. Check your email (including spam) before driving to the walk. If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email, and the walk will no longer be visible in the event listing or on the calendar.
Directions: Enter Nickerson State Park at main gate. Take the FIRST major left towards Flax Pond. Do not park at Flax Pond but follow road to the end and park at the Cliff Ponds lot.
