Reminder: Bring small cash donation for the lighthouse climb.

Shifting sands off Nauset’s cliffs have always been treacherous for mariners. Walk the grounds of four lighthouses that warned ships from shore, then head to a high elevation overlook to see the effects of wind and waves at this erosion hotspot. Walk includes an optional lighthouse climb; please bring a small monetary donation for Nauset Light Preservation Society.

Meet at 12:30 to sign in and stretch. We’ll  begin walking promptly at 12:45. Hosted by Sue Moynihan with Sweep TBD.

Prerequisite: Instructional Clinic and ability to walk 2 miles at a steady pace
Distance: 2 miles. No turn-back or shorter option.
Pace: Moderate. Fewer stops and longer intervals between stops than beginner-level walks
Terrain: Pavement and gravel road

For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round.

• Limit 1 walk per day and 3 bookings per week (Sunday to Saturday) to give others the chance to walk. If you are already holding 3 bookings for the week of this walk, please do not sign up.
• Wear your CCNW ID badge.
• Rubber tips necessary.
• Restrooms and water available.
• Please bring a small cash donation to help Nauset Light Preservation Society carry out its mission to preserve the light and keep it open to the public.
• If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.

Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. **Check your email (including spam) before driving to the walk.** If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email, and the walk will no longer be visible in the event listing or on the calendar.

This walk is authorized under a National Park Service Special Use Permit.

Directions: Meet at Nauset Light Beach at the intersection of Cable Road and Ocean View Drive, Eastham (780 Ocean View Drive, Eastham, NOT Wellfleet). Meet on the ocean side of the parking lot, diagonally opposite from the bathhouse. Note: This is Nauset LIGHT Beach, Eastham, NOT Nauset Beach, Orleans.
