Prerequisite: Instructional clinic, prior CCNW walks, and ability to walk at a steady pace for 2+ miles on uneven, hilly terrain, including many steep steps

Distance: 2.3 miles; no shorter or turn-back option

Pace: Moderate and steady, with occasional view and rest stops. ~23/24-minute miles. Fewer stops and longer intervals between stops than beginner walks.

Terrain: Hard pack trail, with several hills, a short stretch of soft/loose sand, and many steep log steps.

For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when making your RSVP decision. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year round.

One of our most dramatic walk routes! We’ll climb through pine-oak forest and coastal heathland, up and over Bearberry Hill, with long, high elevation views of the Cape’s widest and deepest valley, former cranberry bogs, and the ocean. We’ll end our walk atop Bearberry Hill to watch the near-full rising moon and changing sunset lighting and colors. Bring an app or treat to share if you wish.

—Limit 1 walk per day and 3 bookings per week (Sunday to Saturday) to give others the chance to walk. If you are already holding 3 bookings for the week of this walk, please do not sign up.

—Wear your CCNW ID badge.

—Bring bug spray, just in case.

—There’s some poison ivy along the trail edge.

—No restrooms or water. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need.

—If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.

This walk is authorized under a National Park Service Special Use Permit.

Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. Check your email (including spam) before driving to the walk. If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email, and the walk will no longer be visible in the event listing or on the calendar.

Directions: 111 North Pamet Road, Truro.

Route 6 to Pamet Roads exit in Truro. Take North Pamet Road to the end. Park in designated spots along the road or in the small dirt parking lot just off the driveway of the white former Coast Guard station (summer hostel). Note: This is NOT Pamet Point Road in Wellfleet.
