Challenging walk around Wakeby and Mashpee ponds. Come see the giant holly trees, the rhododendrons and climb a big (for Cape Cod) hill to stunning vistas.
Meet at 8:45 for sign-in and stretching to begin walking promptly at 9:00. Hosted by Barbie Liftman with Sweep TBD.
—Prerequisite: Instructional Clinic, prior CCNW walks of 4+ miles and ability to walk at a moderately fast pace (20-25 minute miles).
—Distance: 5.8. No turn-back or shorter option.
—Pace: Moderately fast with few breaks.
—Terrain: All wooded trails with elevation gains, lots of roots, rocks, hills and steps. One steep hill. Carbide tips only. Sturdy hiking boots or shoes recommended.
For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round. Wear blaze organge for visibility and safety during hunting season.
—Limit 1 walk per day.
—Wear your CCNW ID badge.
— Sun screen and mosquito/tick spray recommended. The ticks are out in full force.
—Restrooms and water are not available. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need.
—If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.
Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. Check your email (including spam) before driving to the walk. If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email and the walk will no longer be visible in the event listing or on the calendar.
Directions: Meet at the Ryder Conservation Lands parking lot adjacent to 61 Cotuit Road (not the one on South Sandwich Road) in Sandwich.
