We’ll meet in front of the restroom building and you can check in with me. I’m a member and I can bring 3 guests with me, so we need to check in together. Then we’ll begin meandering through this beautiful property, sometimes chatting, sometimes breathing deeply and listening to the quiet, the bird songs and the trickling of peaceful fountains. It’s rhododendron season right now, and they’re in full bloom. We’ll also see some other beautiful seasonal blossoms and I can provide a preview of things to come.
Meet at 8:45 AM for sign-in and stretching to begin walking promptly at 9:00 AM. Hosted by Alyson Larrabee with Sweep TBD.
—Prerequisite: Instructional Clinic
—Distance: 1.5 miles. No turn-back or shorter option. We should be finished in about an hour.
—Pace: Slow to moderate with stops for water and photo ops.
—Terrain: It’s all paved, but there are some hills.
For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round.
—Limit 1 walk per day and 3 bookings per week (Sunday to Saturday) to give others the chance to walk. If you are already holding 3 bookings for the week of this walk, please do not sign up.
—Wear your CCNW ID badge.
— Rubber tips are best.
—There’s a restroom at the entrance, and a couple of porto potties along the route.
—If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.
The gardens open at 9:00 for members only, before the crowds arrive at 10:00, so please be prompt so we can beat the rush.
Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. Check your email (including spam) before driving to the walk. If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email and the walk will no longer be visible in the event listing or on the calendar.
Directions: Take Route 6 to Exit 59, Route 130, also known as Water Street, and head towards Sandwich. In a little over a mile, past the Old Grist Mill, and the former Town Hall (now under construction), turn left onto Grove Street. PLEASE DRIVE VERY SLOWLY. There are no sidewalks, and it’s an old, narrow street. Plus, if you drive slowly, you might see the swans on Shawme Pond, on your left. About a half mile down (just past Saint Peter’s Cemetery), take a left into the parking lot. Please meet me in front of the restrooms at 8:45 for introductions, stretching and check-in.
