Have you ever wanted to see one of the most remote lighthouses on the Cape?Race Point Lighthouse sits on the far side of Hatches Harbor at the mouth of Cape Cod Bay. To get there, we will cross Hatches Harbor Dike and marsh to the dunes that surround this special place.
Meet at 9:45 pm to check in and stretch. We’ll begin walking promptly at 10:00. Route is tide dependent, so please be on time. Hosted by Ellie Devlin with Sweep TBD.
Prerequisites: Instructional clinic and ability to walk 3.5 miles at a moderate pace, including some sand.
Distance: 3.8 miles. No turn-back or shorter option.
Pace: Moderate on hard pack, slightly slower on the sand, with rest stops to appreciate the views.
Terrain: 1.7 miles on sand, 2 miles on hard pack. Shoes could get wet as we cross the marsh.
For Your Safety: Consider the weather forecast when booking a walk. WATER MUST BE CARRIED ON ALL WALKS! In consideration of personal and group safety, if you arrive without water, you will not be allowed to walk. Dress for the weather and protect yourself from the elements. Choose appropriate footwear for trail conditions. Use repellent to protect yourself from ticks, which are active year-round.
- Limit 1 walk per day.
- Wear your CCNW ID badge.
- Sand baskets helpful.
- Full sun, often windy. Layers, sunglasses, and a hat.
- No restrooms or water. Bring tissue in a plastic bag in case of a bio break need. Prior to the walk, consider using restrooms at Herring Cove Beach (at the end of the parking lot to the right of the beach entrance) or Province Lands Visitor Center located on Race Pt. Road (restroom building is near the parking lot).
- If your plans change, kindly cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time so other walkers may join.
This walk is authorized under a National Park Service Special Use Permit.
Walk may be canceled, changed, or rescheduled for weather or other reasons. Cancellation decision will be made at least 2 hours in advance. Check your email (including spam) and this event listing, including comments, below, before driving to the walk. If a walk is canceled, registrants will receive a system-generated email, and the walk will no longer be visible in the event listing or on the calendar.
Directions: Meet at Hatches Harbor Trailhead, Province Lands Road, Provincetown. We will need 4 cars to park along the road to save room for other walkers. Allow extra travel time for Rt. 6 construction through Wellfleet.
